What to Start in Your School Garden This Spring

Spring is just around the corner. I get many questions on what to start in the spring for your school garden, container garden, or home child care site. So here are some tips!

Best spring veggies to plant with kids

Sweet peas- direct seeding is easy and fun!

Kale- a hearty leafy green that is fun to munch on or make simple kale chips

Chard- another leafy green that does well with direct seeding in the spring

Lettuce, Dill, Fennel, Cilantro, and Parsley- all these have small seeds and are typically started in spring and can be direct-seeded.

Broccoli, Cabbage, Cauliflower- any vegetables in the Brassica family like cooler temperatures and can be started inside the classroom and transplanted into one’s garden.
