Clean Water is Crucial
"Water equity, is just like health equity" The Children's Environmental Health Network makes a strong and important point on how water is key for achieving health equity. "The ability to access safe water for drinking, cleaning, cooking, and enjoying is absolutely necessary to cultivate happy, healthy communities, where all are able to thrive and reach their full potential." - CEHN
We know that children are at a higher likelihood to be effected by environmental hazards and pollutants. This is because they're still in a critical development window health wise and have yet to develop the proper detoxification and metabolic pathways. Water is a critical element that all people need to stay healthy. That's why it's important to get your home and school water checked and tested.
Lead test are inexpensive and childcare facilities qualify for free testing under Senate Bill 862 (see below handout for more info!) Filtered water is a great option. Place your water where children can see it and access it freely throughout the day. Do regular water breaks, especially in the warm days and after and before outdoor play. Water is also a learning tool, from water tables and water play accessing natural waterways such as creeks, steams, pounds, and lakes. Playing in and around water allows for so much discovery and learning and reduces stress, anxiety, and depression.
Clean water is critical for all of us!
