Pumpkin Seed Activity

This the perfect time of the Year to learn where seeds can be found, how they feel, look and taste. Children can learn how seeds grow into plants and what it takes for seeds to grow!
Read “from seed to plant” or other favorite books on gardening seeds and/or plants. Discuss how seeds contain all the life to grow a plant. Ask children what seeds need to grow? What will happen if you add water to seeds? How do the pumpkin seeds feel? And other open ended investigating questions.

Activity: Bring in pumpkin, cut top out and allow children to pull out seeds and feel their way inside the pumpkin. What colors are they? How big are they? You can do sorting and counting activity, by sorting all similar seeds. Do people eat seeds? Do animals eat seeds?

Nutrition: Spread clean pumpkin seeds on cooking sheet sprinkle olive oil and sea salt and bake at 350°F for 10-15 minutes until dry and crunchy. Enjoy a healthy seed snack!
