Healthy Actions Families Can Take During Times of Fire
Marin Child Care is sending our love and support to all of those who have been effected by the fires in Northern California. During this difficult time, we hold our community close and are helping support the families and communities we serve. HEAL would also like to remind those of you who have children and who care for them to be mindful of the environmental concerns around the smoke filled air we are all breathing. Below you will find some strategies to help mitigate these environmental health concerns for your family.
Limit exposure, one of the most important thing we can all do for ourselves and our children is limiting exposure to outside air. Due to the many burning structures the smoke we are breathing is currently filled with many synthetic and chemical particulates. Make sure to stay inside and keep doors and windows closed. Covering the windows with towels or other fabric to keep the outside air out helps as well. If you have an air purifies turn it on, but turn off fans and air dryers to keep them from blowing around air particulates.
Care for your body, during time of major smoke exposure our bodies our working extra hard to filter and process harmful debris through our lungs and immune system. Help support your body and immunity by increasing your water intake and Vitamin C, both help boosting your immune system and flushing out unwanted toxins that your body is trying to get rid of.
