Children's Dental Health Month
February is National Children's
This February is National Children Dental Health Month! Many parents wonder when they should bring their children to the dentist for the first time?
The Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends that every child should be seen by a dental professional within six months of the eruption of their first tooth, or by their first birthday.
It is important that even at this early stage in life good oral health is taught, in the home as well as in child care settings. Sharing dental health to children and families helps set children up for lifelong healthy dental habits. Developing these good dental hygiene habits can be fun and educational for children. Just by learning how to hold a tooth brush and begin brushing develops important gross motor skills. Remember simple brushing, flossing and eating healthy at a young age has a huge impact on dental health.
The Marin Community Clinics offers dental appointment to families at low to no charge. Classroom visits, which provide dental education through fun hands on activities, as well as screenings are available. These visits are free for your child care home or centers and are available to all child care providers.
