New California Car Seat Law in effect starting January 1st 2017

The California Department of Public Health has put out a new addition to their car seat law.

This new law goes into effect is January 1st 2017 and requires all children under the age of two (or 40 pound or at least 40 inches tall) to be in a rear facing car seat.

There are significant penalties and fines for not following this new law including fines upward to $500.

Reason for this change:

  • Rear-facing is 5 times safer then forward facing car seats

  • It is recommended by the American Academy of pediatrics
